1960: JFK elected president of USA

DATE: November 1960

DESCRIPTION: The election of JFK (John Fitzgerald Kennedy) was tremendous. He was the 35th president of the USA, defeating Republican candidate Richard Nixon, and served from 1960 – 1963. He was by-far the most popular president that USA has ever seen and was to spend much of his time during his presidency involved in events to combat the communist Russia.

BLAME: The results of the election can only be blamed on the American people that voted for him, as they were the ones that elected him to be their president in the first place. Televisions also played a major role in his election as during the campaigns, Kennedy looked relaxed and led the audiences watching him through their TVs to favor him as the winner of the election in comparison to Nixon, who tended to look tense and uncomfortable during the presidential debates.

TENSION INCREASE: The things that Kennedy would do in the future would raise tensions for the communists because he did a lot to try and bring communism to a stop, which angered the communists. However, this event alone did not raise any tensions with the rest of the world because these elections only took place in America. None of the other countries were really involved in the election of Kennedy itself. +0
