1957: Sputnik launched into orbit

DATE: October 4th, 1957

DESCRIPTION: This even highlighted the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite made by the Russians. This was the spark of the Space Race between the Russians and the Americans. This is also a major part in the cold war.

BLAME: This was a major event in the Cold War because it is another ahead for the Russians in the “space race” that the Americans were with the Russians. This highlighted the events that would make them try to one up each other in the so called space race. The blame here is not directly to the Russians but it is due to them that the space race was a real thing.

TENSION INCREASE: . This event really defined the advancements of technology and the ever increasing tensions between these two countries because they want to show the world that is the superior power that controls most of the world. +2
