1954: Vietnam Split at the 17th Parallel
DATE: July 1954DESCRIPTION: This event highlighted the split of Vietnam from the communist North and the south. This portrayed exactly the Korean split. The North under Ho Chi Min’s rule and the French supporter’s South, it happened when Ho Chi Min was fighting against the French loyalists.
BLAME: The tension is boiling over as the Americans are getting more and more worried because of this effect, they want to get rid of the domino effect and any more power from the very powerful communist army. The blame here is due to ideologies. This again can be used as a metaphor for how the Cold War is split down the middle for control of the world. The blame here is due again to ideologies because again the split of Vietnam is due to conflicting ideologies, and constant conflicts due to the vast differences that these two have for each other.
TENSION INCREASE: This is just like the situation over in Korea where they were split in the 38th parallel. Another country falls into communist hands and another victim of the domino effect. The Americans are obviously outraged by this and are trying to figure out a way to counter the effect. They spread more and more propaganda to convince people that communism is the enemy and maybe get more men for the army. +1
