1947: Truman Doctrine

DATE: March 12th 1947

DESCRIPTION: This was an international relations policy set forth by President Truman in a speech on March 12th. The speech stated that USA will support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent them from falling into the “Soviet sphere”. This was just to prevent further countries into going communist.

BLAME: The want to stop the spread of communism gives Truman the excuse to make this Doctrine declaring the need to stop the spread. This rises the tension because the Soviets are obviously angered by the Doctrine and want to stop it and give the power back to the Soviets and turn more and more countries to communism states. The blame is not directly at the USA but by other matters such as ideologies because of the threat of communism Truman decides to make this Doctrine for the sake of safety for his own people.

TENSION INCREASE: This Doctrine wanted to prevent more countries into falling into communist hands. The boiling point is rising, because the Soviets were angered by this because they didn’t want the USA to interfere with these matters and now that Greece and Turkey was under US protection Stalin needs to back off. +2
