“Sinews of Peace” Iron curtain speech by Churchill

DATE: March 5th 1946

DESCRIPTION: This speech was given by England by its Prime Minister Winston Churchill. He talks about an impenetrable Iron curtain that has descended upon the powerful USSR. His speech changed the way the democratic West viewed the Communistic East.

BLAME: Now they face a new terror. The USSR. The boiling point is steadily rising, as a new threat begins to run the world. The threat of communism and the spread of it are very much a real thing. That is evident in future events that come up in the events that transpire in the Cold War. The blame here goes directly to Churchill for insinuating an already angry Soviet Russia.

TENSION INCREASE: This was believed to be the official start of the cold war with this speech. It shaped how the two sides viewed each other. In ways that boiled each other more and more. The US was pre occupied with its post-war efforts of reconstruction. +1.5
